July 30, 2016 - Newport Shipyard and Bannister's Wharf kicked off the Candy Store Cup in spectacular fashion yesterday with constantly improving sailing conditions with clearing skies and smiling crews. There was an infectious camaraderie in the air with the sailors of the grandest ladies of the sea. They knew each other well, and renewed old times the night before at the Candy Store at the Clarke Cooke House and the Shipyard.
The boats were the real story with super-yachts like Adix, Meteor, Columbia, Zenji, Ranger and that was less than half of the eye candy Newporters got to see. Race officer Peter Craig was pleased with the wind velocities, points of sail on the racecourse, and close finishes. Charlie Dana of Newport Shipyard said, "I was aboard schooner Meteor agog much of the time at what was around us. We're thrilled these yachts honored us by participating".
